My younger sister got married in Puerto Rico at the end of July and I’ve finally put some photos up on Flickr! Rob took these photos when he wasn’t dancing with me. Hope you enjoy them! My aunt and older sister made the cake.
The wedding was beautiful and so fun! It was great having all the family together and partying! My family loves to dance and party. We were only supposed to stay until 11 pm and we finally got kicked out at 12 midnight. Then there was the after party for her friends and our cousins. I left at 3:30am. I heard they were up until 5 am! It had been a long time since all of the cousins on my dad’s side of the family had been together. Anyway, the food was wonderful, the reception was great. Dancing to 80’s music and Salsa and Merengue was too much fun!
FYI, my sister’s wedding dress was blue and beautiful!
I’ll be adding a few more photos tomorrow, in case you want to see more.
It’s 1:10 am as I start writing.
I’m still up packing for our 10 day trip to Colorado. We leave our house at 9 am. I, like Rob, also pack last minute. But I have another reason.
I was in the DC area this weekend for my sister’s Bachelorette Party. I left Friday morning and flew home tonight. My flight was supposed to land at 4:45pm but there were awful thunderstorms so we stayed in the air circling and finally landed at 5:40 pm. I fell asleep so it didn’t bother me.
The party was a slumber party and it was SUPER FUN!!! I finally got to play a WII! I went to bed at 4am and woke up at 9am.
So we’ll be in CO for 10 days, come home for 1 1/2 days and then fly to Puerto Rico for my sister’s wedding. And now, I’m going to get off the computer so I might actually get a little bit of sleep tonight.
Thanks to all you who have emailed me and commented on my blog about my grandmother. I really appreciate your prayers.
I’m having a harder time than I thought I would in dealing with her death. It’s hard to believe she’s gone. I’ve been sad and a little depressed. But I’m not so bad that I’m in bed all the time. I’ve been spending time looking at pictures of her and remembering her.
I have fun stuff coming up soon and I’m really looking forward to it. I also have some fun pictures from PR that I’ll put up soon. As for now, it’s time for bed.
My dear grandmother passed away on Wednesday night, June 27, 2007. Rob had posted updates here. Rob and I have been in Puerto Rico since Friday June 29th. How we got to Puerto Rico was a big ordeal and story for another post. My mom, aunt and uncle were already in Puerto Rico. My 2 sisters and spouses flew in from DC and my 2 cousins flew in as well.
Saturday afternoon we had a private viewing for the family for about an hour at the funeral home. It was then opened for friends and extended family to pay their respect until 10 pm.
Sunday we were at the funeral home from 10 am – 10 pm for the same thing.
Monday at 10 am was the funeral service and at 11 am we left for the burial site. We stayed there until grave was filled with dirt and then we went out to eat as a family, 14 of us.
It’s been really hard. It’s hard to believe that my grandmother if finally gone. She was the matriarch of our family. We all looked up to her. We all loved spending time with her. We all respected her. We all loved her. She was 92 years old. I know she’s in heaven.
I will miss her very, very much. I’m sad.
On the other hand spending time with my 2 older cousins has been really good. It’s been over 10 years since the 5 granddaughters had been together. It may never happen again – or at least for a very long time.
As I’ve sat at home all weekend waiting for updates on my grandmother, I’ve been trying to enjoy the simple things in life.
Each update is worse than the last and with each one I cry in sadness and grief. Why is my grandmother so special? She was more than a grandmother. She helped raise my sisters and me. When my father was out of town for weeks at a time and my mother had to continue working, Mami would fly up to Virginia and stay with us for months at a time it feels like. I’m not sure, I was too young. But I remember her always at our house and when she wasn’t in VA we were in Puerto Rico at her house. We’d go for Spring Break, weeks at a time during the summer, long weekends during the year. That’s why my mom continued working for Eastern Airlines…so my grandmother could see us whenever she or we wanted.
Back to the simple things in life. I planted flowers in my front yard, and they are pretty and make me smile. I go outside to look at them when I need to smile. I had breakfast outside in the back yard yesterday morning, facing the woods. It was nice to be outside early in silence.
We continue to wait. But I have to continue living life and so I’m off to work.
I just spent a long weekend in Northern VA and had a great time! I was up there for my younger sister’s, Anita, bridal shower! We all had a great time – it was an Island party theme. She’s getting married in Puerto Rico so that my 91 year old grandmother can attend.
Anyway, she tried on her dress and she’s going to be so beautiful – a very beautiful bride! I’m so excited I can’t wait! Oh, and I also got to see my dad who lives in PA. That was a nice treat.
Anyway, check out the AWESOME cake my older sister made for the shower! She’s so talented. Her and my aunt are making the wedding cake. She made the faces of Anita and her fiancee, Will, palm tree and clothing out of Fondant. The sand is brown sugar. I loved it!
My 6 year old niece apparently told her carpool friend that I “broke my head” after her mom told her I hit my head on the pavement.
